An invitation to all to become connected to the world through service.A word from your Assistant Governor and fellow Rotarian. I joined Rotary after Lorraine Tarpey, a Rotarian, invited me. I had no idea what Rotary was other than 'I knew' it was an old men’s dinner club and was shocked she attended. WOW, was I wrong! In fact Cohasset Rotary is 50% women and member range from 30 to 95 years old. I learned I had no idea what Rotary really was or the international power of it as a service organization! Did you know Rotary is ‘this close’ to eradicating Polio worldwide? Rotary is a major player in peacemaking, education, community development and maternal & child health among their six focus areas! When my fellow Rotarian told me the motto of Rotary was ‘Service Above Self" I replied, “OK I’m in!… BUT, I can only come every other week with work, three kids who need shuttling to sports, homework, dinner, etc". I joined in 2011. After a year I was hooked and needed an excuse to come every week. My husband arranged his work schedule to be home early and I looked for a job within the club. Rotary has become a family to me. I have met so many quality people in Rotary who I NEVER would have crossed paths with otherwise. I am GRATEFUL for Lorraine’s invitation. Don’t be hesitant to go out and invite your friends to Rotary! Your friends most likely are similar to you and probably enjoy helping others as well. |

Cohasset Road Race by the Sea run by over 800 in snow & sleet & wind & smiles.![]() Nothing keeps our runners (or volunteers) from smiling, not rain, snow, sleet or wind. The Cohasset Road Race-by-the-Sea Fun 5 mile run is over with over 800 runners who came out to support Cohasset Rotary. Thank you hardy souls!!! We could not have the road race without our 200+ volunteer ‘veterans' and ‘newbies', and half of them were our amazing high school students and younger Scouts - our community is SO giving! We lost count of how many appeared on race day asking "How can I help?". AMAZING! We are SO appreciative of each and everyone of you who worked and came with a smile and positive attitude - irregardless of the threatening and too frequent March precipitation (not to mention that fluffy ’S’ word) and the blowing winds.

Mary Jo Larsen, PhD, "patterns of Conflict, Peacebuilding and Sustainability"SPEAKER - Mary Jo Larsen "Patterns of Conflict, Peacebuilding and Sustainability"
Mary Jo Larsen has been a permanent Cohasset resident for 6 years. She worked as a Peace Corp volunteer for 2 years in Venezuela, received her Masters in Applied Linguistics, did another 6 years with Peace Corp worldwide and has received her PhD in Conflict Analysis and Resolution.
Mary Jo has worked for Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and worked in multi-lateral and NGO organizations. While recently spending time in Kenya and while waiting to go thru Turkey to go to India, she experienced part of Rotary Internationals work as they required her to have a brand new Polio vaccine to make sure they remained Polio free.
Mary Jo has spent most of her adult life working on conflict and peacebuilding. While speaking to the Cohasset Rotary Club she asked it's members what is conflict? Is conflict a 'problem'? Conflict is an intentional battle of wills. Conflict is DANGER and OPPORTUNITY.
